Oxnard man's 2010 attempted murder conviction to be reversed

An Oxnard man's 2010 attempted murder conviction was expected to be reversed because authorities "inadvertently" omitted evidence that could have discredited the prosecution's key witness. Ignacio Ixta Jr., 32, has spent more than a decade in prison pleading his innocence though he was found guilty in a Dec. 3, 2009, gang-related Oxnard shooting.Fueled by their faith, his parents Alma and Ignacio Ixta Sr. have spent their life savings trying to find ways to clear his name. The couple's tenacity to find this new evidence was expected to pay off April 12 when Ixta Jr.'s conviction is slated to be set aside. "We’re just happy that he’s getting a hearing and to see our son walk out and hug him and hold him in our arms and not let go," Alma Ixta said Friday.

Murder charges dropped against Oxnard man after 11 years behind bars

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. - An Oxnard man who claims he was wrongfully convicted of attempted murder more than a decade ago appeared in court on Monday for a life-changing ruling. The day ended in tears as 32-year-old Ignacio Ixta Jr. learned he was being released from jail. Ixta was convicted by a jury trial in 2010 for attempted murder and related felonies in connection to a December 2009 shooting. However in 2020, the Ventura County District Attorney's Conviction Integrity Unit learned that four search warrants involving one of the prosecution’s key witnesses had not been provided to their office with Ixta’s case materials. This raised questions about the credibility of the prosecution's key witness, thus entitling Ixta to a conviction reversal.
